CHARACTER
Name: Fly Fischer (doesn’t canonly have a last name so for this RP I made one up for him)
Canon: Help! I’m a Fish
Age: 13 years old.
Timeline: A few weeks after the event of the movie.
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with it?: N/A

Personality:
Fly is a young boy who always has something snarky to say. Highly self-sufficient, he is very optimistic, never wasting time to worry about what the future holds. Instead, he finds a solution to his setbacks and plows through whatever troubles are ahead of him head on… But that was before the train ride.
Before finding himself in Ruby City, he was very comfortable in life and very happy at all times. It was rare to see him without a smile. His overwhelming love for his family makes it hard to be sad and living with very open-minded parents allowed him to live freely.
He is energetic and hates to be in one place too long. His favorite hangouts are beaches and anywhere he can skateboard.

However, there are many things that he loves other than just the beach and skateboarding! He also enjoys things like double cheese burgers, Star Wars, mermaids, video games, dinosaurs, planes/blimps, boats/ships, uni-cycling, biking, archery, UFOS, aliens, space, stargazing, rockets, tennis, baseball, soccer, hockey, roughhousing, kites, race cars, robots, comic books, cartoons, pop music, search-and-finds, (super) heroes, and being a pain.

While he has nothing but good intentions (most of the time), that doesn’t stop him from upsetting his surroundings with his chronic impulsive, spontaneous behavior. It doesn’t matter if you’re close to him, he has a knack for ruffling other peoples’ feathers if the opportunity surfaces. But you have to be as old or older than him to qualify for his little tortures. If you’re younger, Fly is surprisingly tolerant and supportive.
If you’re an adult, he’s generally respectful but it depends on how you treat him first. And even then he doesn’t always listen.

Fly can be really good at ignoring others. He tends to get absorbed into his own agendas and has a hard time listening to people, especially if they have no backbone or are telling him that things are hopeless. He cannot stand negativity for very long. On the other hand, Fly doesn't like it when people don’t listen to him and can get frustrated. He does shove and shout, making sure people know he’s unhappy.

If there is ever an opportunity for Fly to have the leader role in any group, he will take it. His boundless confidence, sense of responsibility, and moral instinctive give him the energy and guts to lead just about anyone in any circumstance, even if he’s not totally sure what to do.

For most of his adventure with his cousin Chuck and little sister Stella, Fly was extremely brave. As well as extremely foolish. He thought he was untouchable due to his comfortable upbringing and, before meeting the Professor, never found himself in any real dangerous situations. And it didn’t help that he was influenced by the media he surrounds himself with, where the heroes always win. He thought he could take on the world just as well as they could.

However he has changed since then. After being struck by the large claw of a soldier crab and finding himself in a position where he couldn’t do anything about his situations, through Chuck he found the value in solidarity and thinking before acting, as well as to never ever give up. After which he also learned to appreciate his cousin instead of being frustrated with him because he never joined in on any of Fly’s ideas, wanting to take time think through their problems instead of barreling straight through them… Though this doesn’t mean Fly stopped pulling his usually childish pranks on others anymore.

Despite his inhibited talent of dancing on people’s nerves, even to those he’s close to, Fly can also be the sweetest kid you’ve ever met. If you’re kind to him/made friends with him, he is reliable and will always be there for you. He is especially good with kids who are younger than him thanks to his experiences in helping raise Stella for five years.

Additional Information (Mostly Headcanons):
He may never say anything about it, but Fly blames himself for the mess he put his family through. Once he knows he’s the one to blame for something, he’ll never blame it on someone else. He’ll (usually silently) take the fall for his mistakes.

Fly also feels extremely guilty for killing Joe. It was the first time he’s ever killed a “person” and it makes him feel sick to his stomach. He tries hard not to think about it and has yet to tell anyone. The only person he feels like he could tell is Chuck… But he’s not here now, is he?

Mermaids are one of Fly’s biggest weaknesses. He thinks they’re the cutest beings to ever be made up and cannot resist them. If he ever met one, fake or real, he can’t help but fall for them and his confidence melts into bashfulness. He’s loved them ever since he was little after seeing The Little Mermaid, his favorite movie of all time next to the Star Wars films (the originals). He is not afraid to share his adoration for them but don’t make fun of him.
Voted “Most likely to be a reliability on trips that involve Sirens”.

If there is one thing that will turn Fly into a mess, its girls who have crushes on him. If you’re not very straight forward with him, he’ll most likely miss cues because he honestly doesn’t think about that kind of thing very often, and even then it usually involves mermaids. If he catches on, he will have no idea what to do with the girl nor himself, especially if he doesn’t feel that kind of affection towards them. Depending on the girl and what she does, this can result in him acting awkward, running away, and/or getting angry.
No-one really knows what he’d act like if he were to like someone back but it’s theorized that it’d be a lot like how he acts when it comes to mermaids.

Fly is not only a huge dorky nerd, but he’s also a bit of a weeb. He enjoys One Piece and Dragonball anything. His favorite characters are Luffy and Krillin. (This headcanon exists because his Japanese voice actor is Mayumi Tanaka who is known for voicing Luffy and Krillin.)

Animal welfare is important to Fly, especially for large marine mammals (Save the Whales!). If you’re cruel to any animal, there’s a high probability that he will never like you.

Due to recent events in his life, he currently doesn’t go fishing. It’s too weird since he’s been a fish himself and has spoken to them as well. Granted the ones that he talked to had taken the Fish Potion but… Too soon, too soon.

As a side effect of the Fish Potion, Fly now gives off a light fishy smell. You have to be really close to him (unless you're an animal with a great sense of smell) to catch any hint of it. He's not aware of it yet and there is no getting rid of it.

For the chance that Fly is transformed into a fish again, he NEEDS saltwater. Freshwater and being in the open air for too long will kill him.

Even though he’s smart, Fly sometimes forgets some really important things. But all he needs is a little reminder to remember them.

While often finding himself right in front of a shark’s big toothy mouth, Fly was not too afraid and always managed to get away. However, when the crab he encountered towered over him and looked him in the eyes, he became frozen with fear. If the face of a monster is scary enough and Fly doesn't know what to do, there's a chance he'll freeze up instead of fleeing.

It takes A LOT to make Fly cry. There are very, very few things that will hurt him that badly. And when I say hurt, I mean emotionally. It will take an incredible amount of physical pain to force him into tears.
Even if someone were to find out what hurts Fly most and try to exploit it, his automatic response will be to get extremely angry, with a probability of throwing punches, and he will remain that way till they buzz off. He might get sad when left alone but he won't let himself cry. He absolutely hates it and would rather be mad. This means that he bottles his sadness and eventually it will overwhelm him.

When upset, instead of moping around, he'll use sports to let off steam. His favorites to turn to are basketball (slam dunks are very relieving, it's also the easiest game to play by himself if no-one else is around) and any sport that requires hitting, kicking, or pitching things (baseball, softball, tennis, hockey, soccer). Football and rugby also help but Fly doesn't like to play those games with others out of anger since he could seriously hurt someone. If you really want to offer either of those to him, make sure your character is physically able to handle Fly's tackles.

Sometimes he doodles in his spare time. His favorite things to draw are mermaids, sea life, his heroes, himself (as a fish or human, depending), and some animals.

Being raised with Stella, he's learned to tolerate (and often like) 'girly' things. He doesn't mind his hair being played with, nails being painted, playing 'girly' games, and so forth. He's been to subjected to it all by his experimental little sister and her friends. However he has to know what he's going to be put through ahead of time and you probably should have his permission. It takes a rare sort of person to make him ok with sudden makeovers.

Background:
Wiki Page
But I HIGHLY recommend watching the movie first.

Abilities:
On the Fly – When in trouble, he’s good at thinking on his feet to come up with a solution, even if it’s total bullshit.

Born leader - He is good at taking the reigns of situations and leading others. This doesn't always go well, however. He could be seen as "bossy" and there can be times where his leadership gets people into (more) trouble.

Convincing actor – As long as he remains confident, it’s hard to tell if this kid is acting fishy. How could you not trust that confident little face of his?

Smarter than the average kid – Fly a very intelligent kid. A great problem solver!

Skilled Swimmer – Even before becoming a fish, Fly was pretty good at swimming. But after his experiences, he’s gotten even better!

Skilled Fisher – Fly loved fishing and has spent a lot of time doing it. He even knows how to make his own lures! I also assume he’s good at untangling knots, relining fishing poles, etc. He has a steady hand.

An Optimist – Unless something really horrible is going on, Fly’s bravery and confidence are made of steel. You can easily depend on him!

Pain Tolerance – It’s not the strongest, but after what he’s been through and what he did while he was injured, he handles pain pretty well for a kid.

Great sense of justice – If Fly knows, or even THINKS, you’re evil he will disregard almost everything you say. He will never give in to evil. He’s watched enough Star Wars and Saturday morning cartoons to calls ‘em as he sees ‘em.

Responsible big brother – Fly is probably one of the best brothers out there. He is very good, protective, and patient with his little sister Stella. That being said, he’s good with younger kids and will look out for them. He will do his best to bring them some kind of hope, even if they’re in trouble.

Athletic – This kid is flexible, strong, fast, and rides skateboards with ease. He also has a pretty powerful swing thanks to baseball, hockey, and tennis practice. His stamina and endurance are high as well.

Sporty – On the subject of him being athletic, Fly knows the ropes of most sports and can easily be seen as a threat to other players due to how well he can play. He is also very competitive and has a lot of fun making rivals on the field.

Fish Potion – He knows how to make Fish Potion and its antidote. But who knows if it works in the City. The ingredients aren't nearly as readily available, either (Esca from an Anglerfish, the whiskers of a Codfish, ink from an Octopus, the tentacles of sea anemone, and the eggs of any fish [to make the antidote, add ground-up kelp]).

Manipulative – Fly is good at getting people to do what he wants through being a nuisance or threatening to do something they don’t want him to do.

Fish Knowledge – He’s no marine biologist but he does know a thing or two about fish and other aquatic life.

Treasure Hunter – Likes to look for cool and useful stuff.

Trivia – Fly knows a lot about western comics, games, shows, and movies! He’s a 90s kid after all. He might even recognize some of the characters walking around the city!

??? - For some unknown reason, Fly’s hat survives everything and manages to stay on his head no matter what (even if he transforms). The only way it tends to come off is if Fly removes it himself or someone snatches it off of his head on purpose. The hat will not slip off on its own… Unless he’s dying/dead, of course.

Network/Actionspam Sample:
[After walking around with no luck of finding anyone, Fly eventually noticed an additional weight that swung in one of his jean pockets. Patting it, he felt a small lump. Ok, that definitely wasn't there before. He reached his hand in and withdrew a golden pocket watch. Back at the train station he had caught glimpses of it on posters but he thought they were weird advertisements and didn't take the time to read them.]

[Fly's eyes narrowed as he lifted it to his face by its chain, examining it carefully as it slowly pivoted in place. Should have read the posters... Eyes wandering around, still not seeing anyone, he decided to sit down on a nearby bench to fiddle with the watch he was given.]

[It was a neat little watch. Not the most complicated thing Fly'd ever seen. Taking a close look at the buttons on the sides, he took a guess at which one opened it, pressing the one on the upper left. It snapped open and displayed a screen instead of the clock face that the boy expected, as well as a keypad for texting.]

Huh...

[So it was like a cell phone? His parents had them but he didn't have much interest in owning his own. However, this did give him an idea. Face lighting up, he started to tinker with the watch, looking for a way to dial. If he could do that, he could dial his home phone number to get a hold of his folks.

[Experimenting, he unknowingly activated the broadcasting function, streaming himself live to those who were awake in Ruby City.]

Prose Log Sample:
A wary boy, about thirteen years old, stepped off the strange train, seeming pretty reluctant to do so as an unknown force urged him to leave. Ever since he woke up, he tried finding someone to tell him about where he was and what he was doing on the locomotive. Obviously he had no luck with the bewildered look on his face as he stared out at the city that lied ahead of him.

The train closed its doors once he was off and quietly chugged off towards the twilight’s horizon. Fly turned and reach a hand out, taking a few quickened steps after it despite knowing it wasn’t going to work.

"Hey wait!"

But it was far too late. All he could do was watch it continue down the tracks without hesitation, off to its next destination.

Normally Fly wouldn’t be so worried. Naturally he was filled to the brim with self-assurance… What broke his usual happy-go-lucky personality is that no-one he knew was with him. His family was almost always at his side and he knew he could turn to them no matter what. But no-one was on that train. He felt like a fish out of water being stranded at this odd train station by himself.

Well he wasn’t going to get anywhere just standing here. Finally taking initiative, Fly walked on. He didn’t have much experience with train stations but there had to be a schedule somewhere. Maybe he could find a ride that would take him back to California, back home. However the only flyers and posters he came across didn’t tell him anything other than directions and what city he was in: Ruby City. He’d never heard of it before… Must be pretty far away from home.

Brain riddled with questions, he decided to find someone who might know more. If there was anyone around here, that is.

Just like most other people, Fly felt like he’d been caught in a dream. Or at least wanted to believe he was. But there were plenty of things that told him this was definitely happening. First of all, that biff he took when the train stopped at the station sure felt real. His chin still felt sore… Then there was the gentle breeze that brushed against him, rustling his hair and clothes. Even the weight he felt whenever he lifted a foot to walk felt too real to be a dream.

But how? How could any of this be happening to him? He didn’t have a single memory that he could recall of him getting on any train. The last thing he remembered was being with his Mom, Dad, and sister at home, falling asleep on the couch when they were kicking back to watch a movie together… That’s it! The movie didn’t even have a train! What gives?

To make things stranger, his chest and leg no longer ached. Last he checked he still had a couple weeks left to fully heal…

He felt tired. A few weeks ago he was out in the ocean trying to get back home and now he was out here on land trying to get home again. Sure, he was only out in the ocean for a couple days but that adventure could have lasted him till he was eighteen at least.

Sighing and sticking his hands into his jacket pockets, Fly moved on, making sure to note all the places he passed so he could make it back to the train station when he figured out what was going on. The first thing he needed to do was find someone, anyone, who lived around here.

Unfortunately, he’d seen more life at the bottom of the ocean…
